The band
Els Amics de les Arts are one of the examples of what some have called the new wave of Catalan folk-pop. Their songs are short stories made with simple melodies, touches of electronic music, wordplay and lots of irony. After several demos and a disc, the album Bed & Breakfast (Discmedi, 2009) was the real step forward: they went from being friends who shared a flat in Barcelona, to sell over 45,000 copies of the LP.
Their next work, Espècies per catalogar (Discmedi, 2012), placed them at number 1 in iTunes Spain and drove the band to make a tour which was immortalized in the CD-DVD Tenim dret fer l’animal (Discmedi, 2012).
Last 2014, the band presented their latest album Només d’entrar hi ha sempre el dinosaure (Discmedi, 2014) which in its first week on air, it was #1 in itunes and Amazon in Spain. Només d’entrar sempre hi ha sempre el dinosaure is simply a further step of an established band which it’s in constant evolution.
In 2015 the band is celebrating its 10th anniversary and during the summer Els Amics de les Arts will combine the presentation of their fourth album, with a limited number of special concerts. On these occasions, the band will revisit their old songs with the participation of the Vicens Martin Dream Big Band.
